Richmond, Virginia, May 8, 1865

We left Raleigh, North Carolina, the 30th of April and came here yesterday which was the 7th of May. It was about two hundred miles on foot.

Tomorrow we might leave for Washington, which will be a march of about one hundred and thirty miles.

I am well, and so are the others that you know.

I think the army will be disbanded in Washington and the regiments sent to their own states, there to get their discharge.

I will write to you from Washington. I have to close my letter, the mail is going out.
