Marietta, Georgia, July 12, 1864

I believe the soldiers’ pay has been raised from the 1st of May. Privates will get sixteen dollars, Corporals eighteen dollars, and Sergeants twenty dollars a month.

We have not had any Norwegian newspapers now since the Fadrelands office burned down.

I will have to end my letter soon and cook my dinner.

If you write to Norway mention that I am still alive. I have not written since I left Fort Snelling. We have very little time for writing here, we have lots of picket guard duty, and also help to load the steam wagons, and so forth.
